but it would have passed had the dems told the insurance companies to shove it... took the burden off businesses and passed a vat tax to cover it or reformed the tax system.

Every businessman in america would have loved to unload health care costs. It would have fixed the whole manufacturing sector. It probably would have driven up profits... unleashed the stock market. Improved the economy, paid for itself and lead to a new deal for dems. The republicans would have been forced to vote for it.

In the short run a well designed system would have worked. In the long run it would have become the post office only worse.
