GIC, CD, Bonds, there is quite a few things you could do. If you are "green" i would not invest at all.

5000 grand = 5000 *1000 so 5,000,000 so I would just put it in a 3 month CD for like .75% or 30 grand

I assume you mean $5000, and not the $5,000,000 that $5000 grand would imply. The first thing I suggest you do is educate yourself on investing. Get yourself to see how the financial markets work so you can decide for yourself where to put your money. Others will simply direct your money into their own pockets.
