Newbie FAQ - a must read for newbies

I consider Tharp's Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom, ed 2, required reading for any trader. Cuts thru alot of the baloney.

For example, most traders spend most of their time on entry techniques. Most traders are losing money. It is possible to make money using only a random entry using the principles in his book.

It is post #2 in this thread. You are right that it is not a FAQ in the traditional sense, but describing the method how to use the Search feature effectively, thus get all your questions answered...

I'm sorry if I missed it, but I'm looking for a closed
forum or equivalent at ET that would provide all
information on all futures (or at least the most
popular ones). Simply saying "go to www.cbot.com"
for information on the YM doesn't seem sufficient.

On this thread:

http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...e=6&highlight=market order limit&pagenumber=8

There was this...

Quote from erToo:

Last I heard CBOT has native stops (market), but not native stop limit orders. So if your market stop is hit and the market is moving you may...

(Also, the link provided by buzzy2, which
answered the question, is now dead,but that
is besides the point.)

I included the example above as something that might
not be obvious to newbies, but is still important.

So...maybe doing this at ET would be a good idea???
If it is, just a list of links that would be periodically checked
for life, would be helpful.

For the YM I just found this:

YM:

http://www.cbot.com/cbot/pub/cont_detail/0,3206,1560+14425,00.html

(another link here)

If this has already been done for the index futures (my
personal interest)
I'd appreciate the link. I'm not
competent enough to do this myself, but it seems like a good
idea for those that have the knowledge and ambition.

Should thread should be done by a mod. and non-postable by a regular ET member.

I see 1 spam already.

Agree that this should "also" be on the Trading Forum

Quote from roberk:

Some old time wisdom for the big picture.
"If"

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

By Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).

That's my father's favorite poem :)

Can anyone help with a licensing question? I'm considering taking a position with a credit union that doesn't currently offer financial services (that will hopefully change in the future). After the 2year window is there anyway to keep your 7 active. Can I sign on with a B/D for a month then quit prior to the expiration, to get another 2yr window? Is there any information on this out there? I'd hate to loose this license.
Thanks
