hi,
I am new in options on futures. Last week I did a trade on ES as follows-
Sold 1 naked 1200 put for 2.25pts with 5 days to expiry. Enclosed is the statement of acct. I do understanding the details except for the margins req. Looking at the acct bal, how do i know when there be a margin call coming?
BEGINNING ACCT BALANCE 5,031.79
OPTION PREMIUM 112.50
NET PROFIT/LOSS FROM TRADES 102.50
ENDING ACCT BALANCE 5,134.29
TOTAL EQUITY 5,134.29
OPTIONS MARKET VALUE 300.00-
ACCT VALUE AT MARKET 4,834.29
INITIAL MARGIN REQUIREMENT 2,590.00
MAINTENANCE MARGIN REQUIREMENT 2,132.00
I'm not really certain Nick, but I use Interactive Brokers and if you don't have enought money to trade the trade just won't go thru.
If you go to their site they have all the margin requirements per contract. It also changes at nite (after US market close). Best thing to do would be to call or e-mail the broker and get it from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Hope this helps a little.
