New Year’s Resolution: Minimum 6-Month “Sabbatical” from ET

After some introspection, I have concluded that it would be in my best interest to take a sabbatical from ET for a while. I do not have an addictive personality in the normal course, however, I find myself frequenting ET somewhat more than I would care to. After exceeding 3,000 posts it has occurred to me that perhaps I should spend more time elsewhere, both during and after market hours.

There is no question that ET has some value (although you do have to look for it), and I have benefited from it to some extent. However, when I see the rather high proportion of my posts that have nothing to do with trading, it has dawned on me that perhaps I should spend at least that time away from my computer and out in the real world. Further, I won’t deny that I have missed more trading opportunities than I would care to admit while engaging in my diatribes in response to other people’s diatribes in these forums.

And so, I am hoping that cooler heads will prevail in 2007. With this in mind, I am going to endeavor to abstain from ET for a period of no less than 6 months and hopefully a full year. I may occasionally drop in on the software, hardware or broker forums since many of you folks are far more knowledgeable in these areas than I am. However, I will only do so if a specific technical need arises, and I am hoping that such need will not arise.

I will be here until the end of the year and will then sign off. Not that I expect any PMs, but I will be disabling this feature during my absence. I do hope to see most of you when I return.

T-DOGG. You are absolutely right about ET and missed opportunities. My observation is that the extreme ennui which compels one to surf or post on ET presages an eminently tradeable market move. This, of course, only when there are no new updates to one's favorite porn sites. However, rather than simply abstaining from ET (harder than abstaining from sex), I suggest that you go out in a Gotterdammerung of flaming obscenity rant and cant and get yourself gloriously banned. A Jack Attack might be a good way to start. Your threatened absence led me to observe that the honorable Nononsense has not posted for over four months. The decline of ET accelerates. When the cynics leap overboard, the rats are sure to notice the splash. If I could sober up long enough, I would join you in banning ET.
 
I think if all of you just stayed out of Chit Chat and the Politics forum you would then stick to what this place was intended for...... discussion of trading topics.

All you have to do is not go into the Chit Chat area and problem solved :)

That's certainly a large part of it, but not quite all of it. Even if it were not for the threads you mentioned I would find myself drawn into some old trading-related discussions that I have already had with other members years ago. (And don't get me started on Larry Williams!) Fresh content is really quite rare. The time has come, or will come at year end, for me to exercise some discipline. The sausage has to be cut somewhere, and December 31st is where. This turkey is going cold turkey. :)
