New Videocard: PCie 16x, 128 bit, DH, passive

My new Dell PC comes with nVidia Quadro NVS integrated graphics with shared memory. Is that the same thing especially in terms of PQ? I have plenty of unused RAM left and can allocated 256Mb of memory to it without breaking a sweat.

It depends on monitors resolution; probably your Quadro NVS is 64 Mb RAM and it use the system memory for additional RAM if needed:

>>The NVS 285 includes 64MB of local memory plus 64MB of system memory via NVIDIA's TurboCache technology for a total of 128MB graphics memory. The TurboCache feature, which is integral the Quadro NVS 285 GPU, allows the card to also use the system memory as if it were local to the card. Utilizing the high-speed bidirectional PCI Express bus, TurboCache doubles the memory bandwidth. The displayable desktop is always stored in local memory to minimize the impact on system memory performance. For optimal usage of the Quadro NVS 285, NVIDIA recommends a minimum system memory configuration of 256MB.>>

What do your mean for PQ?

Does the nvs 285 run Vista Aero on two monitors at 1920*1200? I have heard there are problems with nvidia graphic cards in a dual config with Vista. Anybody else know about this?

Interesting question, and I'm not sure about it. Considering Vista has higher graphics card memory requirements, better be safe and go for the 256MB one. After all, you'd hate to get the 128MB version and regret it.

If I have a NVS 285 with 64Mb RAM with 2 screens (dual head setup), how can I know whether the videocard uses the system 'shared memory' if the desktop is @ 1280* 1024 and 16 bit resolution -- or instead the onboard 32 Mb per head are enough?

:confused:

It's NVS 210S integrated graphics with a chip on the mobo. The spec says it uses system memory exclusively. Is there any performance difference this integrated NVS vs the real NVS vid card?

PQ = picture quality

yep...

hey gnome you need an AGP Nvidia 285?

You've already go the best card for trading. I'd stick with NVS if I were you. Anything else is more likely to degrade your system, not improve it.

Any idea?

If you have a video card it's either (1) the onboard video has been disabled and there is no "shared" memory, or (2) the onboard is not disabled (both the video card and onboard chip are running monitors). In that case, there would be "shared memory" for the one monitor.

Nvidia has been having trouble with Vista drivers. Don't know if it's across all models of cards, but better to verify and not presume.

Yeah, like I need another pimple on my butt! :D

Actually, I believe there is no such thing as a "285 AGP card".

Hmmm... I never heard of "Quadro NVS integrated".... are you sure? Is that on a notebook?
