new twenties...

From an "embossed code" to aid the blind, holograms, windowed security threads, multi-colors that change when tilted in the light, tiny holes, 2.5 billion points - each individually accessible electronically, silk screening for chameleon numerals and hot stamping for the silvery elements; after 10 printing processes are involved ( including a final coat of lacquer to prevent defacing ) designer Jorg Zintzmeyer has created the Rolls-Royce of currencies!

Hey GG,

The answer is very simple:

It costs money to print money.

In fact, as I recall from a WSJ article that I read a number of years ago that the Swiss Franc was hailed as being the most expensive of all notes due to all of the "anti-counterfeiting" techniques that were used ( such as different colored inks, halograms, etc. ).

I think that the Swissy costs about .06 cents per note to make.

:)
well, i didn't really mean for anti-counterfeiting purposes or to make them look pretty. i'm just talking about making the denominations different colors so they're easier to identify. all they have to do is change the ink color from green to blue, etc.

I can't remember the last time I confused the denominations because they were the same color, though. :)
