Floppy drive essential for drive installations.
Various tech forums say when building many drive loadable with floppy only.

When it comes to PCs often you can get a mass-producted top of the line system with all the right stuff - cheaper than building your own. PC makers are very compeditive nowadays.
 
Mass produced PS's are not what you want.
Cant really get the parts you want.
Look at Dell for example.
Options very limited.
Have a Dell now, but building own opens up so many options.

Nothing matters more than price - any decent computer shop knows what to give someone who asks for "top of the line" - Pentium 4 3.2ghz - boxed, ready to go warranty in hand.

Mess around components and you're paying off too many resellers if you ask me.

I had Win XP pro so I didn't have to buy OS.

I purchased a Dell 8300 from their refurbished department in early July for $775.00

Pentium 4 and 2.60
800 FSB and 512mb of PC-3200 RAM

40 Gig HD
64mb Nvdia based video card
CDRW and DVD
Windows XP

I added another 512mb of PC-3200 for $120.00 and also added a Mad-Dog 64mb Nvdia based PCI slot card for another $50.00, and a PCPower Cooling 400 watt powersupply for $150.00. I added XP-Pro from a previous OS I had.

Seems like Dell prices have surged since July.
I doubt you can even touch an 8300 these days for under $1200.
