New Tower Components

I just put parts together and installed win2000. Does anyone know how to eliminate the annoying password prompt screen?

Thanks.

I've recently reinstalled Win2000. I think those other guys are correct. You'll need to reinstall. Towards the end of the process, install will ask something like if you want to "presume YOU are starting the OS for all start-ups, and therefore a password is unnecessary...". I've done that before, and it doesn't ask for a password after the install is complete.

BTW, I suggest you get a 2nd HD (cheap, with rebates these days)... especially a Maxtor. It will come with software called Max Blast II... will clone your good HD in MINUTES... and you'll always have a backup.

Sorry that I did not state clearly. I did not type in any password, I left it blank since I know I do not want to have that screen. During the restart processes, it asked me everytime to enter the password, so each time I left it blank. I thought that if I did that the password screen should go away. But it doesn't. Reinstall is not so bad since I added nothing after OS.
What do I need to do now to eliminate the password screen?
If I need to reinstall, what are the steps to eliminate the password?
Additionally, it is a 80 GB disk drive. Do you think that partition it into two is more efficient or just leave it as one? I do not have any particular need to have it partitioned, just thinking maybe it'll make scan and defragment much faster.

Thanks for the help.

Partitioning probably won't speed up defrag. Defrag will stop when all the occupied sectors are accounted for.:D

Thanks for the link. I used that site in the past. I did search before I post here. All I got was solution for win98,me.

you'd better not have anything you can't live without on your harddrive cause you are gonna lose it if you don't do it exactly right.:(

my HD is a maxtor and comes w Blast II. I'm thinking partition it to make it more efficient. Regarding backup, right now I have no need, otherwise I would bought a raid version MB. I may consider in the future. It actually presents a problem if I want to add a HD. There will be no more power plug left once I add DVD unless I disconect a fan.

OK, first one partition is all that you should have here. Multiple partitions won't do much in saving the defrag issue.

Second, the reinstall of the OS will allow you to set up the startup so that it does not go through the password request mode. I won't go into the technical stuff but you can eliminate it without the reinstall. But unless you're good with this stuff, such a headache you'll create. :)

Thanks to all of you provided suggestions.
I went ahead partitioned and reinstalled OS. Unless I missed when during the admin screen, otherwise I can't see how I can eliminate password screen during installation. I did hit cancel when user password screen popped up (there is no cancel button in admin password screen). However, it eliminates user and next time when window starts up, it asks for admin password. So I went to registration and
created AutoAdminLogin and ForceAdminAutoLogin and set both of them with value of 1. In short it basically worked except that the next a few times when I was installin MB drivers and office stuff, window automatically reset AutoAdminLogin's value to 0 so I had to manually reset the value back to 1.

You've passed tech admissions test #1. Congrats! And now you're really dangerous. :)
