most of us are somewhat old folks, who doesn't like changes. any changes. specially-changes of something, that worked well in the past. not sure about rest of the crowd, but i'm certainly going to visit ET much less after that.
You may not have an iPad or download many Apps. You may not use social services like Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook. You may not access sites with a variety of mobile devices. But guess what? Billions of other people on this planet are the
EXACT OPPOSITE of you. Every time I look at our web site analytics, the story is always the same.
Most people upgrade their operating systems when new versions come out.
Most people have purchased computers with higher resolution monitors over the last 5 years. And
most people now have a mobile device in their pocket that they check email, visit web sites with, and otherwise continue their digital life on when they are not at their desktop. 5 years ago, Windows OS usage was about 99% of our traffic. Today, it's only 69%. So 30% of our users are now accessing ET from an operating system that is NOT from Microsoft. That's a big shift in that short of a time period. And don't even get me started on the collapse of the IE web browser.
Now I can sit around, reminisce about the good ol' days, and pretend like none of the above is actually happening. Yeah, I can just continue to run my site on outdated hardware and 11-year old software that is ate up with security holes and no longer supported. But guess what?
I'm not going to do that. Because from a long-term perspective, it's not in the best interest of my users, and by users, I mean users from the past, today, and decades into the future.
There's no doubt that some older users like yourself may not like the current site because you simply don't like change. However, I have a vision for where I want ET to eventually be, and if executing that vision causes me to lose some older users, then so be it. I hate to see anybody go, but I refuse to just sit on my hands from year-to-year as the world around us continues to evolve.
