New look of ET

Baron, you are clearly wrong here, and I am going to prove it easily.
Well, let's see, BMT does it. Trade2win does it. Somethingawful does it. Sciforums does it. You know what they are??? MESSAGE BOARDS, just like ET!

Pekelo, the only reason why those forums all do the same thing is because they use the same outdated software from 10 years ago. Even the company that makes that software no longer puts traditional page navigation at the top in their current versions. The only thing they put at the top is a page jump where you have to manually enter the page you want to go to, like this:

As soon as those sites upgrade to the latest version, *poof*, there goes the top page nav vanishing into thin air.

No.

Not going to happen. Look, if putting page numbers at the top made any sense whatsoever, all the best sites out there would do it, but they don't. Do a search on Google or any major search engine and you'll find page numbers only at the bottom. How about Amazon product listings? Yep, page numbers at the bottom. I just checked the top 50 web sites on the net and not a one of them put page numbers at the top. I'm not talking about bullshit sites here.... I'm talking about the best of the best that spend a ridiculous amount on R&D and user experience testing. So the answer is no.

Alright, your forum. Wasn't looking to pick a fight on it. Just looking for conveniences to make the threads easier to read.

It's laid out this way primarily because of the variety of devices that have to be accommodated these days. It's easy to load up a bunch of poster info underneath a username (and then have the post content to the right of that) when everybody viewing the site is on a nice wide desktop like they were 5 years ago. But nowadays we have to also accommodate small laptops, tablets, smartphones, etc. If you view a thread from your smartphone you'll probably have a much better understanding of why things are laid out the way they are.
While I do not like it, it makes sense.

Is there a reason why the word "Forums" is still at the top?
Am I missing something here?

You mean why is it there twice? Double redundancy for safety. You can never be too careful...

Now click on them and see what happens...

I liked the old version better too. But ET is still a great site and I'm sure the owners had a good reason for changing it.
