I try to mostly trade breakouts and hold for weeks if possible. Breakouts are not working in current environment. I am still new to day trading and just focusing on a few stocks in news that day.
BROS was a failed breakout and SPOT was moving on earnings
 
Indeed the current environment isn't breakout friendly.
Energy is a sector doing fine (XLE). You might find leaders and breakouts in this group.

But it's better to wait for an overall bull market to find potential candidates.
However if the overall sector is doing well, you've got the wind in your back.
