New IB Home Page - Nicely Done

Quote from CalTrader:

Ah yes ..... The generic smiling business people pictures. You do need this in your online branding image right ? ... Because we all need to know that everybodys "happy" and the world is wonderful .... I'm not sure which pony tailed techie/advertising person came up with this but it seems that everyone now believes that they need to have this generic look to be successful.

No offense IB, but you would be better just concentrating on the brand message rather than trying to "genericise" your brand look and feel. IB was/is successful precisely because of its product offerings ... IMHO the new look and feel simply muddles the online brand since you now look like everyone else ....

I agree

I thought the "old" website was very professional looking. Made them stand out from the crowd. Simple and efficient.

Guys at IB.... just like with certain trades... if its not broken, don't fix it!

I agree the RED/ORANGE looks horrible. I'm trying to think of another website which uses that much RED/ORANGE and I'm drawing a blank.
Plus, for a financial website, RED has the connotation of LOSS.

The content is improved from the old website. I liked the targeted messages for Active Traders, Advisors, Introducing Brokers, and Institutions.

But those colors..!! I think they must have been looking at www.realtick.com or www.cybertrader.com too much. www.cybertrader.com used the color more sparingly, so it doesn't look as obnoxious. I prefer my text black. The www.etrade.com and www.mbtrading.com look more professional and appealing IMO.

My personal pet peeve which they haven't fixed is IB continues to use FRAMES ! This makes it impossible to bookmark a particular page. (The URL always says http://www.interactivebrokers.com in Address bar)

BTW, If you want to checkout how their website looked in the past, www.archive.org keeps snapshots of websites.

my first impression was dissapointment. i found it much harder to locate the info i was looking for. in general, it's much more logical and straight forward to present lists of information vertically, not horizontally. miss the old site very much (but as a new IB user, service has been sterling, unlike the impression i got from word of mouth)

also agree, orange/red is inappropriate for a financial site.
