New IB Features

Quote from risktaker:

Since you IB guys are monitoring this thread, why don't you add the capability to have buttons on *each* page, as opposed to the entire application. Also, how about a "transmit all orders on page" button, and ""cancel all orders on page'' button?

Thank you!

I think we have that already. Please PM DAV for the how-to.

Your DSL line is not shared, but if you are connected to a remote terminal, your connection back to the CO will be shared will all the other users on the remote. The backhaul of a remote can be 4 T1s, shared among >50 users.

Quote from JackR:

Realize this doesn't quite fit the thread but -

I thought that the DSL capability provided by the phone companies connected to their routers in the Central Office and then into the Internet backbone system. I also thought that the DSL connection went directly back to the Central Office over the same pair that your telephone ran on, it was not a party line.

Conversely, cable providers are basically providing a neighborhood Local Area Network and as more people use the system, the slower it gets.

Could you expand on your assertion or provide a reference?

Wasn't referring to your post Sherlock, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Quote from Holmes:

If I have given the impression of whining then I apologize.

I am a happy customer but am always looking to improve the stability of my trading environment. Having to download these large TWS upgrades on a 19.8K line is no fun, can do without that. Hence the suggestion to seperate the "bare bones" (core) TWS from all the bells and whistles.

Quote from mtzianos:

A -minor- issue IB TWS developers may want to look into:

In the case of multiple login names (users) trading the same (institutional) IB account.

When one user makes a change to a NATIVE exchange order, e.g. move LMT BUY xx.x to yy.y, or STPLMT etc, the change is correctly reflected into all other users' TWS.

But:
If I have a non-exchange-native order, e.g. a STOP order in a CBOT market (or if I use STP instead of native STPLMT in CME market), the change WON'T be reflected in other TWSes.

E.g. if I have the initial order being in ZB, STP SELL 116'05 and move the order to STP SELL 116'00, the other TWSes will still show the INITIAL order (116'05), although the STP price may have been moved several times. And the new order has been accepted by IB.

The correct order (116'00) will be the one executed when time comes. It's just that other users' TWS don't reflect it (they'll still be showing a STP @ 116'05).

We've successfully replicated this problem. It will be fixed in the next release of TWS (850).

Please consider enhancing the alert funtionality to combine price and time variables into a single alert.

i.e. if price of contract is greater than X for Y seconds then send order

Quote from def:

There is a new IB beta available with some great new features that should move into production shortly. Among the most noteworthy:

Alert enhancements: you can set an alert to send an email, beep, send an order, etc.

Interactive Analytics: a VAR (value at risk) analysis is available

Multiple orders: you can now transmit multiple orders with one click

there are also FA enhancements, additional ways to calculate order quantity and additional market scanner parameters.

IBsoft,

I don't see anything new regarding buttons on each individual page in the latest release.

To give you an idea, just today, I had 30 orders on 1 page and 50 orders on the main TWS application window on another monitor.

When I clicked "transmit all orders on page" the WRONG page got transmitted! Imagine my horror. And this was not the first time either. I can't blame TWS since it was likely an error on my part (although I'm not entirely sure).

Anyway, what I'm asking for is a simple, SPEEDY way like having a button on *each* of the individual pages so that many orders can just be "parked" and then transmitted at once with the click of a button on *that* page. This way the wrong orders/pages don't accidentally get transmitted. I understand you'll probably suggest using the basket order input. That whole process takes too much time and is just too cumbersome.

Thanks for listening!

I wrote a glowing review for IB on this thread (or maybe it was another thread on Elite). Of course this morning I had data problems with Eurex and still the HKfarm is not logged in throwing the light orange. No big deal because HK is not trading. But I missed alot of trading this morning reloging into TWS so I could get some data. For a while everytime I logged in TWS would not get any data at all!!!

What is going on there???? I have never seen data problems before. What happened to you guys?

TGM and stfreak,

Sorry for the problems. We had a misconfigured firewall. The TWS is designed to recover from such a failure by attempting to get the data from a different source, but this failed. We'll have it fixed.

These hiccups happen in conjunction with moving the HK customers onto farms, the benefits of which are increased mkt-data refresh rates, increased number of free-of-charge symbols and decoupling of order-routing and market-data links. (This is not meant to be an excuse, just an explanation of what we were trying to accomplish).

Thanks for the explanation. I thought that my rave review jinxed the whole deal. I have had consistent problems with HK over the past week and I am glad it is not something on my side.

Your explanation works for me. Anything to make things more stable and faster --go for it. I went to your website and saw that all systems were operating normally---you guys should update that with a firewall down.

My stuff is running fine now (I am still getting a orange light from the HKfarm being disconnected).
