here is how it works: (you can substitute different countries into my explanation, it still works the same)
if you live in Asia and trade Asia you are best off connecting in Asia; if instead you connected trough USA, you would incur unnecessary Asia-USA-Asia delay
if you live in Asia and trade USA:
a) if you connect to Asia, your order traffic gets carried through IB leased Asia-USA line
b) if you connect to USA, your order traffic between Asia and USA gets carried by the internet

Yes, I followed up with samaratin yesterday. It looks like the large majority of the bugs we've been working on have been fixed as of now...or are fixed in your new beta.

To assist you in your trouble shooting my problem with market depth EXACTLY coincided with an upgrade from the last version without backfill to a version with the backfill, so I think the error is not just on the server side.

no matter where you are and what you trade, connect to your home server for the fastest connection.
you just need to worry about your home server's reset time conflicting with the trading hours of foreign markets.
But there is (was at least) one issue. If you are on the IB US or EUR servers and the server goes down then the you can ring the other country and they can access your account and close trades etc. If you are on HK then they can't do zip ... you just wait until it comes back up.
IB please advise if that has changed.
