New guys, now is not the time

Quote from retaildaytrader:

Dustin,

No disrespect, but...are you trying to convince us or yourself?

I dont believe now is the time for defensive trading, but aggressive trading. This is just like 2004-2005 where one sector lead while everything else chopped. Its just a matter of identifying what is working and what is not working.

Buffet believes that coal is working. Trade coal miners then.

Thanks for telling us you are a newbie. when you have another 10 years of trading experience, pls come back and you can begin to talk.

You're welcome. Remember, being flat is also a position... you don't always have to be long or short! :)

OK, as promised I'm in all cash now. Got out first thing this morning and managed to take out a decent overall profit, given all the lessons I've learned in the past several months. Right now, I'm flatter than your junior high school girlfriend, and loving it. :-)

Zzzzzzzzzzz ppppwwwrrrrrr yipyipyipyip....
Zzzzzzzzzzz ppppwwwrrrrrr yipyipyipyip....
Zzzzzzzzzzz ppppwwwrrrrrr yipyipyipyip....
(my impression of the three stooges sleeping soundly :-)

I think I'll take a nap now :-)

The OP sounds like a losing trader without an edge.

imo this would be a terrific opportunity for a new trader to step in (if they can make it in this environment they can make it in any environment)

Man you are an idiot. The op is one of a handful of traders on this board who knows what he is doing. When he says things are tough I listen. I have been doing this for ten years and this year has sucked. I know many traders who have made great money over the years and universal opinion is that this is a tough environment. The markets move in cycles and right now we are digesting the end of the credit crisis and lots of volume and activity have left the market. This will change in fact this week showed a glimpse of a possible return of better trading.

This is one of the worst trading/scalping markets i have seen. If you caught the bottom and held congrats. Better times to come, cheers guys

another no liqudity day today, chop grind and then spit u out after they are done

Whew no joke. 1 for 3 on the Forex, and I felt lucky on that one.

The original poster is obviously not doing well in this market where as he did well in the past. His intention here is to get people to jump on board this thread to agree with him that others are not doing well in this market to create a "losers lounge" of sorts.

The truth is that there are many who are doing well everyday making money.

I totally agree with the original posting.
I am finding these markets to be incredibly challenging. And I dont mind admitting it. Most people I talk to are experiencing a lack of consistency. 1 step fwd 3 back etc.

I dont think by commenting on the difficulties one is having in the current dull trading environment makes us losers.

I also agree that now is definitely not the time for any newbies to start trading.

Its all about being defenesive at the moment. Once realism sets into the markets either in the stocks or commodities that the current relentless rally is unsustainable and built on government spending then volitilty should increase and us traders can go on the offense.

Until then stay safe.

Not my intention at all. Over the years I've had countless PM's from new traders asking for direction. This blanket post is meant for them.

Anyways you can have your opinion and let's leave it at that.
