New Equity Trading Platform

Hi everyone, I am designing the UI of equity platform for my company. I was looking out for insights regarding the information, a trader would like to monitor at the first glance (pre-market research). It's a standard equity trading platform, we are building it from the scratch.

What should be the home screen?

Scenario1: A trader logs into the platform. He looks for the hottest stocks and sectors to trade (gainers/losers,etc.), News and shortlist the stocks he want to trade.

Scenario2: A trader logs into the platform. The first screen is a stock screener, he shortlist the stock for trading.

Scenario3: A trader wants to know, the status of his portfolio.

I would like to know thoughts on the above scenarios. More scenarios are welcome.

I was thinking of designing a screen: where the trader has all critical information on the first go. This even helps to initiate the critical tasks like shortlisting stocks, setting alerts, doing company research, etc. I have less clarity regarding what information I must consider critical as I am not into trading.

suggestions?sure..you are reinventing the wheel. typically , in every application like this,there is a button called save layout. once you save it-next time you log in-you will see what you like. not option one ,two or three. DONE
try some demos in major brokerages,before you start wasting our time on this nonsense

I would like to log in and see a message that if I do something specific the probability of my account growing by $X is 1. Unless you can do that do not waste your time because soon there will be more platforms than traders. :)

There are a ton of broker neutral platforms out there that work well. To just build another one is not productive. I would focus on creating software that will enhance current platforms by connecting to their API. That might be a better use of your time. That way, you are also avoiding the hard stuff such as certification with routes, prime brokers, risk checks, end of day regulatory reporting, risk, margin, etc.

As I said, my suggestion is to target popular platforms that have an API, find a need from your traders, and develop that.

I agree with your thought, there are already a lot of trading platforms. I am just trying to build a new one which improves on the present platform and is more interesting.

Is there anything that you would like to change/add in present platforms? It could be a new feature/visualization/information that could enhance your trading activities.

More...

There are lots of free sites where you can check for premarket gainers/losers, but they include everything. Traders want quick access to pertinent information only. Example: Nasdaq 100 premarket gainers/losers, filtered by volume and price.

Also, you'd be surprised many retail platforms can't sort "change from open". Instead, they have "Net Change" but that is from the prior close. If you have a list of stock and a column with "Change From Open" then you can see at a quick glance if a stock that may have gapped down is rallying immediately, or a stock that gapped up is falling immediately from the open.

Just a few suggestions, hope that helps.
