Network Wizards Please help Again ??/

100mbs is faster than your hard drive. You need 1000mbs if you have a rack of hard drives serving a room of computers. Do what I say and make your life way easier.

Sorry Joe, That setup you advised didnt work for me, has the data collection to my other PC for calculations ( ie Scanning ) was very slow...

But hey its on the list, if others fail...

Another response from another place was...Hello icm63,

..."Does your Nokia Mw1122 perform stateful packet inspection? In other words, does it have firewall capabilities? If not, you need to
get a firewall"....

QUESTION : So I need a firewall on PC2 to stop it going to be PC1 via the router...and forces it to go the other way???

Correct..is it ??

more info from F..

I think I will have to hire an expert...damn it !

Hello icm63,

Goto Start, Settings, Network and dialup connections folder. There
should be two local area connection icons, one for the 1gig line, and
the other going to the Nokia. You should see this on both computers.
Double-click on one of the Local Area Connection icons. You can tell
which is which by selecting "properties" and you'll see the network
card name under "connect using..." Rename these icons accordingly.

On both computers, open the Local Area Connection going to your Nokia
ADSL. Select "properties" and in the middle window un-check "File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks". You may also need to un-check
"Client for Microsoft Networks" also, but first see if unchecking file
and printer sharing will do the trick.

This will force windows to perform sharing on only your 1Gig network.

Having said that:

The proper way to do all this is to get yourself a 1Gig firewall
router/VPN attached downstream from an ADSL modem, and attach all of
your computers behind this router in a virtual private network (VPN).

Finally, once you have everything working, I would spend some time on
security. It's very important that you protect your intellectual
property. While I'm unfamiliar with your Nokia model, I recommend
against any
wireless configurations or non-firewall routers for security reasons.
Since you will be sharing your disks, there is always a security risk.
I suggest you install Kerio personal firewall http://www.kerio.com on
each machine and set-up the
custom rules yourself. Kerio is a rules-based firewall, so you may need
some help to set this
up. Kerio is free and there is a very active Yahoo group dedicated to
this excellent firewall.

not sure if you have it working yet - but if your using this setup:
============
PC1
100Lan: IP 10.0.0.2, GateWay 10.0.0.1, SB Mask 255.255.255.0, DNS your provider's
1GbitLan: IP 10.0.1.2, Gateway 10.0.1.2, SB Mask 255.255.255.0, no dns needed

PC2
100Lan: IP 10.0.0.3, GateWay 10.0.0.1, SB Mask 255.255.255.0, DNS your provider's
1GbitLan: IP 10.0.1.3, Gateway 10.0.1.3, SB Mask 255.255.255.0, no dns needed

Router
IP 10.0.0.1, GateWay 10.0.0.1 or the one given by provider, SB Mask 255.255.255.0, DNS your provider's
=============

then remove the Gateways for the 1gig cards(no need) - and connect to shares by ip# ie . \\10.0.1.3\share - no need to use hosts files or lmhosts files.

skip the software firewall on each PC and put a linksys firewall in front of your PCs, if nokia cant firewall you off.
