Net neutrality

The democrat nominee has 2 very good policy issues to run on in 2020,repealing this net neutrality decision and repealing The Trump millionaire and billionaire tax cuts.I would also say tearing down Trumps wall but it probably wont be built.

Wouldn't it be nice if that were really possible. You can get a new ISP. It is like choosing between Comcast, Direct TV and Dish. They all quote different prices and different packages. After you read the fine print and do the math you discover that the difference comes down to pennies per month.

Net neutrality does nothing to bring down cost. In fact it increases bandwidth demands on ISPs which INCREASES cost.

Net neutrality is going to bring down cost the same way Obamacare was supposed to save middle class families $2,500 a piece. How did that turn out?

note the url gofccyourself.com no longer takes you to the fcc comment page. It now just takes you to the fcc home page.

I think you have to be a bit nuts to trust the guy who gave away control of the internet so that our first amendment would not apply....
you have to verify anything a big govt republican or lefty says.

"Readers with passing knowledge of net neutrality may have heard that it means that Internet service providers must treat all Internet traffic the same. This notion of equal treatment, repeated in the first line of the court opinion, has unknown origins, makes no appearance in the rules, and is widely derided by network engineers as a fantasy. Many services transmitted on broadband lines would break with “equal” treatment.

As you might gather from the FCC’s two prior failed attempts at regulating the Internet and from the length of the final order, net neutrality is far more than a traffic-management requirement. In the words of Tim Wu, the law professor who coined the term, the Internet rules are about giving the agency the ability to shape “media policy, social policy, oversight of the political process, [and] issues of free speech.”"

I wonder if the above is true?

the little bit of time I put in on this issue has left me with more concerns than answers.
I find it odd that Obama who sent internet control out of US was ever really doing anything pro paying consumer. Think gruber and obamacare...

So when I read things which state this was really going to be about the govt determining there needs to be subsidies for lefty sites the way cable has to subsidize cnn and msnbc... I have to wonder.

Max praised Obama a while back when he blocked this same issue as President , where is he now ?
and where is Jem with all his talk about ''freedom'' ? . ?

we know . . . . it's all (A)OK when Trump does it.:vomit:.

Many rules and regulations kick in, including a selective ban on blocking Internet content and oversight of the competitive Internet interconnection market, but the so-called general-conduct standard swallows them all. This amorphous rule allows the FCC to prevent any practice by an Internet access provider that the FCC believes will “unreasonably disadvantage” an Internet user, application, or content provider. The FCC and net-neutrality advocates correctly recognize that if the agency can monitor and control the distributors of speech, they can shape culture and politics.

Sadly, we will never know, now that the Republicans have done all within their power to wreck it. What you have now is not Obamacare, as bad as that may have been. What you have now is something still worse, the Snakes on a Plane version of Obamacare brought to you by Mitch McConnell and the Red State Governors.

AAA was exactly correct.
this seems to be whose ox gets gored typed issue. either silicon valley or pipe providers and local providers.

I suspect I would rather see the consumers be empowered by price shopping rather than letting google and facebook and lefties make all the decisions. I already pay about 100 bucks a month... that should get me a pretty wide open pipe. If not I will check my options....

But... i really want to add a caveat... I am happy to change my mind if you bring up facts and law and not just talking points. I also note as piezoe said at the moment the choices are not as varied as I would like.

News flash. Google, FB and Twitter have been busily censoring content for the past year or more. Conservative content only, so progs are ok with that.

Ah yes, shopping around

More than 100 Million Americans Can Only Get Internet Service from Companies That Have Violated Net Neutrality
A free market approach might have worked if we actually had competition.
