surely you jest! your talking about one of the greatest and most unique money managers/speculators/traders who has ever lived.

VN is one of the fathers of the modern hedge fund industry and is credited with many unique and remarkable achievements in business, the markets, and sport. your post demonstrates total ignorance of this subject.

Seemed like Surf was trying to kill the "Vic blow-up" story......

Thats exactly what he was trying to do....he implied a few times that VN was fine.

It is/was pretty easy to know when a guy like VN is in trouble....just wait for the market to violently correct/go down and put sellers like him get clobbered. The part that is crazy is that he left himself open for an implosion again.

Nobody here is doubting how smart the guy is.......is/was he a great trader? In the end I think that answer is "no".....a great trader wouldnt blow up numerous times. Part of being a great trader is knowing how to manage risk.

Vic's 5 years performance finally matched Roy's, breaking even:

On the bright side, statistically speaking NOW this is a good time to invest with Vic.... (for 4 years or so)

Ok, its time to break the story--- you heard it here first:

Matador's directors got concerned after the February decline and requested that Matador fold in May. They really turned against Vic, since they had been OK with the long dated contracts until that point. This was a dumb move by Octane, which they did before the worst drop since 2002. Their was also a cabal on the CME to give unfair marks--which stopped last week after an inquiry was made. Octane wanted the fund wrapped up by the end of August, an almost impossible task, however Victor was able to pull it off. He is happy to have gotten away from Octane and is still surviving nicely with his own account.

Just wanting to squelch the rumours.

All I see from you is a statement saying Octane lost confidence in Niederhoffer and wanted the fund closed. No where do you mention that Niederhoffer lost 75% of his account. No where do you mention that the increased CME margins crippled him. To read your post one would assume that everybody just agreed to roll up the fund and call it a day.

"Old rumor"? My original thread was posted in August.

You seem to forget, I've been a member of both Chicago futures exchanges. My sources extend to the guy's who execute and clear the trades.

To this day I STILL have more information than the media regarding this issue.

If you're so in the loop then why this PM exchange:

Re: VN
I haven't heard anything beyond what I posted. If I was a reporter I would have stood by my story. I believe it's true and that VN buffaloed Baron. Doesn't he report anywhere?
