Trading is like playing poker. You get for example an ACE and King. You know that is a good hand, so you bet or call. An Ace comes on the turn, so you bet or call since your hand improved. We are not talking about bluffing since you as a retail trader don't have enough money to bluff the market.

Trading is the same, but you need to recognize what is a good hand. This can be very hard since it's counter intuitive sometimes and is the opposite of investing. In investing you want to buy low and sell high. This has nothing to do with trading.

Once you find an edge, which is the ability to recognize a profitiable setup, you place trade.

The goal like Poker is to not go on tilt if you lose money on the trade.
