I quite fancied being a truck driver when I was young.
The nearest I got to it was a stint as a dispatch rider in London, a crazy time really.
It was well paid back then, but hard on the body, and your head...
Used to go all over the place - lots of short City of London jobs (actually quite lucrative as there was a min charge) but sometimes you'd find yourself way out somewhere in the Oxfordshire countryside, searching for a house which sometimes was pretty difficult to find.
Happy days. I wrote a lot of it down in the form of a proto - novel, which sadly I never completed...
I saved up some cash from the job and flew with a mate to Toronto, bought a cheap car, a Mercury Zephyr, which we drove across Canada to Vancouver, then down to San Diago, then across the country via Las Vegas, Chicago, eventually arriving in Boston. Then after a stint as a bar tender in Boston to replenish funds, we drove down to Florida for Thanksgiving, before eventually arriving back in Toronto exactly six months later...
Some interesting adventures along the way. Think I managed to see some of the 'real' America.
