That rig should serve you well for quite a while... and you likely saved >$1,000.

You could buy a refurbished T430, throw in 16 GB of memory and Intel or Crucial SSD and have a good system for around $400. Point is almost anything will work. This isn't 1995. Hardware is far ahead of software.

I'm trading using just a used $200 HP Flyer Red 15.6" 15-f272wm laptop I bought from eBay

...I randomly saw this model on display at Walmart...it's sleek and red and different...and decided I want one.

When you get this and after putting it through its paces, you might let us know how you like/dislike it. And BTW.... if there is something you don't like you've got 21 days to return for a full refund, no questions asked. (There are about 6 reasons why a computer might end up on the Outlet site. One could be something like the optic drive didn't work right so the computer got returned. Dell replaces the optic drive then sells it again through Outlet. Sometimes somebody orders several computers but doesn't take delivery of all of them. The overages go to Outlet. Scratch and Dent.. is another reason. That usually saves you about another $60-$100 and the flaw is barely noticeable.)

Thanks for this thread. Apologies for adding my question here.

My question is whether to go with a desktop or laptop. I always traded using desktops. Just couple of days ago my old Dell AMD dimension stopped working. I was about to junk it, but was able to fix it(changed the HDD data cable port (inserted in another open port/socket in the middle of the mother board) and strangely it started working again. The original port/socket did not recognize the HDD. Not sure how long this will work as when I ran some diagnostics HDD showed some bad sectors. Before it fails, I need to buy a new one. Luckily, I was able to get the data copied to a backup drive.

1) I am thinking on buying a new one. Wondering to go laptop 17 inch with 8G ram AMD of dell or go for a Desktop? I currently use 20 inch monitor and 32 inch TV as a monitor. If I go for laptop I may get 3rd display (in laptop) and I am planning to add 1 more monitor (so 4 display in total would be sufficient I believe).

2)Using laptop for trading 24/5 compared to desktop? More stable/reliable - desk top or laptop?

I personally don't favor laptops, but it's usually possible to run 4 monitors from one using adapters and/or daisy chaining.

Less cumbersome to run 4 monitors from a desktop. Easier video solution.

Thanks. But having one unit (for your personal use and trading and mobility) will be good for laptop? But dedicated desktop is better?

If you need mobility, then of course you need a laptop of sorts. But if you don't need portability, a desktop workstation is much preferable IMV.

How about a laptop with a docking port? If you really don't need mobility at all, then get a desktop. A business laptop should be as reliable as most desktops.
