Need advice on laptops for trading

I personally prefer lenovo thinkpads... everyone will be different... if weight is not an issue, the W530... if weight is an issue then go with T430s... and option for the HD+ and FHD displays... and I dont do new... no reason to, just upgrade and get the thinkpad protection, and include the accidental stuff as well.. and upgrade to mPCI SSD and regular SSD to replace the HDD.

I trade with a Vaio SVS15113FXB, I like it but the trackpad has some quirks and sometimes IB freezes it causing me to do a restart. But I'm not sure if that's the fault of the computer or IB.

whenever I get the pink lines, the first thing I do is go to some other internet site and see if it has a similar problem

If I also have a similar problem there, I restart my internet connection

no need to restart the computer

it's either ib or the connection

late at night around midnight, it is usually ib

during the day it is usually the internet connection

Like I said, I use Verizon wireless, if there is a problem with the connection, all I have to do is remove the device and wait a few seconds until it says "Device Not Inserted" and plug it back in, and usually I am back up and running in less than a minute

if it is just ib, best thing is to not fool around and just exit and restart

I watched ib for two years before I actuallly put on a real trade. In those days, pink screen was an hourly occurance, now it is very rare

otherwise, with my laptop and Verizon wireless I am up probably 99.9% of the time
 
i don't see the need for a 1500 laptop computer for trading. i bet you can buy a nice one for 600 and trade on it fine. i would look into a external monitor for when your home. i bet you can pick up a 25 inch monitor for 200, also plug in a mouse/keyboard in somewhere, and still have the freedom of the laptop when you need it.

you know broker, that's exactly what I did. I already had a really nice moniter, and a good digital optic mouse. That lasted about three days.

I'll never use a mouse again

and I certainly don't need 25 inches anymore

and I doubt kids in the future will ever need a laptop

the old fogies get on board with their laptops in carrying cases

the new kids got it all in their pocket, if not on their wrist
 
my desktop broke and i think by Dec the touch laptops will be a lot cheaper. i would like a more powerful laptop now but i am making due with my current one. if it broke tomorrow i would buy a new one in a second though. i plugged in my monitor, keyboard, mouse, and i can unplug everything than travel with it too. i don't see the point of desktop computers anymore but they do last longer.

All my puters are from Costco. Can't beat the return policy is something goes wrong, and they have a 2 year concierge desk and warranty for 2 years as well, no Punjabi help desk is worth the extra money.

bad if you have a problem

This last one I bought from Staples

it isn't much different, if you have a problem, they send it off to the factory, but I'd rather go to Staples than go to UPS or Fedex and save all my shipping boxes

thats the difference with business support... a tech is dispatched to my house for my laptop, desktop, and monitors... of course, it helps that I am in IT and can troubleshoot my own issues, so when I call I am telling them what is wrong, what I did to identify it and what I need their tech to come out with...
