Need advice for new trading computer

A large SSD is fine in a laptop when you don't have option for a storage drive

In a Desktop you will be better served getting a 64/80gb SSD for your C-Drive [op system & programs only] and keep all data on a secondary drive

Technically, this is a true statement.
The read/write times on a 1 Terabyte or 2 Terabyte SSD are much faster than those for a 120 GB SSD, etc.

Again, the Samsung 830 Series has stellar performance.
And their 64 GB SSD has comparable read/write times to the larger drives... much more so in relative terms than the competition.

What's the difference between getting an SSD as the "primary drive" as opposed to gettting one as a "Boot only drive"? Dell offers both options for their t5600 model and I can't figure out which one I need. Would like to have OS and trading programs on the SSD for speed, with historical and other data on secondary hard drive, as suggested in previous posts.

If you won't have so much on the drive as to fill up the SSD, then just go with that.

Or, small SSD (boot + 1/few frequently used programs) + HDD to save cost.
