Need a mentor for power trading.

I'm looking for someone to help me learn how to trade power. I'm primarily interested in PJM LMPs and the fundamentals. We can communicate via pm, chat or email.

The way I see this working is the mentor will give me "homework" or reading assignments to complete every few days to once a week with the goal of understanding price movements and learning to forecast prices. It may seem like a big ask but I'm only asking for a few minutes a week to type and answer questions. Thanks for reading.

I've heard about EMI, and I get emails from them all the time, but I know little about them and as such I cant state an opinion... but if I am going to pay $2K for a 2 day class, then I rather pay $$$ for something that will give me a degree that I can use as well ... that is by no means a reflection on the content of the EMi classes, just my way of thinking... but so we are in the same page... I would rather pay $2K to EMI for a 2 day class than $7.5K to any self-proclaimed guru/trader... I've personally wasted lots of $$$ in "educators" to find out they for the most part are as clueless as I am...

Well, here is how I would evaluate this. I don't know the posters background education wise, so if he has a Bachelor's degree then EMI is a great supplement. If he has no education at all, he has to weight the cost of spending 50k to 100k on a 4 year degree vs 7k to 8k. He also has to calculate his opportunity cost for spending 4 years in school if he has not already done so. I agree the college education is better since he will gain more overall knowledge and skills(math) then simply taking a course, but he has to calculate his expected value and cost of both. I absolutely agree he should avoid the "guru" at all costs. But if he has a degree already, then EMI looks like a quick and relatively cheep way for him to supplement what he doesn't have already.
 
Thanks for the response guys. I have a BA in Finance and I know there are many courses out there that offer "book knowledge" but nothing beats actual hands on experience. The next best thing is for someone to show me what power traders actually look at on the job. Sure, some of it will be proprietary, but I'm sure a lot of it is freely available.

What I'm looking for is something like this:-

Assignment 1: Look at "XYZ" website and learn the language plus how power markets work.

Assignment 2: Look at data A and data B on site "ABC" and try to determine what impact the data will have on power.

Assignment 3: Make a model in excel that does x, y, and z automatically.

That is pretty much it. I want to learn just enough to impress an interviewer.

I don't know anything about the mkt in question, but you want someone to do this gratis?
 
in that case then the EMI site is your best bet... Mav is correct... if you need a crash course... look at their power courses, specially if you are trying to "impress" an interviewer...
