If you were watching the flow of the game, Cleveland had missed the past couple of open shots in the last couple of minutes. You could see the noose tightening around their necks as time was running out, and the experienced team of former champions had the edge.
It was important at that time for LeBron to rise up, to
lead his team.
He did not, he passed off to someone who has never made a game winning shot like that in the conference finals.
Teams need a leader that can take over a game.
LeBron had zero foul shots up to that point?
That demonstrates his passivity. No way great players who are capable of going to the hole the way he is, do so for an entire game without being fouled.
LeBron simply is not mature enough yet to be called a superstar.
Who knows if he will ever be tough enough to lead a team to a championship.
Tracy McGrady, great scorer, but has never show the ability to put a team on his back come playoff time.
Like it or not, greatness is measured by championships, and the fact that a great scorer, dominant scorer like Dominique , the human highlight film, never got it done. Neither did the iceman, George Gervin, a great player, fantastic player. Yet he was not a leader that players would follow to an NBA championship.
The jury is out on LeBron, he has been in the league for 4 years, and I don't see much improvement lately. His regular season was below that of last year, he sits and bites his fingernails on the bench...something is missing in this equation.

But the broader point is the whole notion of "don't pass, be the man". I just don't agree with that philosophy in general, and I think the fact that the two teams in the league (spurs and pistons) that best exemplify passing to the open guy are most likely going to be the two teams this year that duke it out for the championship.
Not to say I didn't get a certain amount of satisfaction watching DWade be the man in last year's title run.
