Then explain to me why the climate change guys like yourself are not rabid about making this change to natty gas? It's a no brainer. It's cleaner, cheaper, more efficient. There shouldn't be a fleet vehicle truck, bus or car that isn't running on natty. Let's spend the money building out the infrastructure to do that rather than putting up another solar panel plant.

Well, you're right to some degree, but it isn't just big oil lobbyists creating the road block to natty gas vehicles. Anti fracking lobbyists are a thorn as well.
There are other issues. Currently to produce the process uses a lot of water, and with no pipeline infrastructure, transportation costs money and adds to air pollution. It's going to be very expensive for the transition, but consider that while one barrel of oil produces 6 times the energy of one MCF of NG, but costs 50 times more. Not exactly a great ROI from a taxpayer/consumer point of view.
If Obama wants my tax dollars to explore new sources of energy, he's welcome to use it building out the infrastructure for NG conversion, but between big oil up his ass and the anti fracking crowd in his ear day and night, it's an uphill battle. All that said, at some point we're going to have to bite the bullet because continued dependence on oil and gasoline to the degree we currently use it will just become too expensive, both in dollars and lives. Evidently we still have plenty of both to chase our tail.
