National polls got it right

National polls have picked the popular vote winner in 5 of the last 5 presidential elections.

National polls have picked the EC winner in 4 of the last 5 presidential elections.
 
They almost didn't, and could have quite easily messed up. There's less science and more art to these polling companies.

Actually less art and more witchcraft.

Based on this knowledge, why do we need national polls at all?

And yet, it's looking like Trump will end up with more total popular votes than Obama did in 2008 which technically means Trump is more popular than Obama.
