A President cannot declare a national emergency and remove constitutional rights of US citizens. Please show any such evidence they they could.

I agree that declaring and emergency opens a door to a precedent of a lot of really bad things, and I wouldn't want Trump to do it. But declaring an emergency to build a wall isn't going to do much to the public. The vast majority of the public will continue their lives, undisturbed and reading the news.

A declaration of emergency to do a gun grab is a whole different Pandora's Box to open. The outrage and outright rebellion of police forces, state governments and the general population will be one for the ages, and the ability to actually enforce such a declaration will be almost zero. Additionally - and probably most importantly - building a wall isn't challenging a constitutional right.

What prevents liberals in the future (if they ever return to power) from declaring a Global Warming national emergency and bypassing congress? What prevents them from declaring a National Diversity Emergency and throwing the borders open? It cuts both ways.

Better to force congress to fund the wall. Just leave the Government closed until the Dems relent and carefully explain to the American people that the Democrats are preventing IRS tax refunds from being issued. That is the kind of heat needed.

Obama did Executive Orders, which is a bit different than declaring a National Emergency to allocate funding and bypass Congress (whose job it is to allocate funding).

I don't share your optimism. This government can and will become very heavy handed under the right conditions and we are now one very small step from that environment. Further i don't think those Texans or anyone else will be all that rebellious when the actaul assault begins. Easy to talk until the bodies start to drop.

Didn't Obama use EOs to allocate the expenses of funding his attempt at (illegally?) swamping America with illegal alien immigrants?

(Read somewhere that America has been operating under some "National Emergency" declared by Odumbo since about 2012. The way to end "his" emergency is to declare a new one.) ??
