Sure thing, that's a selection bias in that most people from Iran that have had the option of escaping the current socioeconomic collapse caused by the regime have done so. I.e. when seeing Persians abroad they're more likely to be educated or otherwise affluent simply because they at least had the option of going. Not sure if I would have labeled them refugees in the word's strictest sense though until recently when sections of the population are literally on the brink of starvation.
A tangent: In Sweden we've received a mix of random refugees from Syria and elsewhere the last decade (peaking in 2015). The trouble is, even highly educated refugees can have trouble finding jobs here when there are not enough employers prepared to deal with the associated bureaucracy (=time/cost). E.g. to get a doctor employed here, they must, aside from learning the native language to a degree where they can understand patients, have his/her education be verified to fulfill local requirements. Currently such bureaucracy is being streamlined but the issue will remain to an extent.
As for whether it's a net gain to Sweden with such large immigration here - in absolute terms it will probably be (though GDP has been stagnant for a few years), but per capita? That remains to be seen - integrating people we have here now will take decades more. We've failed badly so far in some respects.
So, yes, of course there is a difference between the educated and well-trained who leave a country on their own accord and purely for philosophical and economic reasons and on the other hand those who claim persecution and threats to their life as reason to flee their country. And then there are a bunch in the middle that attempt to freeload, they are neither in danger of their life being taken nor do they add much value to a developed nation in terms of valuable contributors. One must differentiate between each group. And that was the precise reason I participated in this thread, because it appeared that all migrants were put into one single bucket and vilified.
Those who differentiate and criticize uncontrolled migration but otherwise are open to consider welcoming those who add value to their society are from my experience those worth debating with. There are a few others, including some in this thread, who reject everything foreign and claim they want to live a "pure" life. Ironically they are the ones driving the cheapest Kia, constantly shop the cheapest Chinese import products on Amazon but on chat board they play the big Kahuna and swing the nationalist axe.
First of all, this ET forum is titled "EliteTrader" and it is a financial trading forum where we discuss issues related to financial trading. We do have a section called "Politics" and this thread should really be in that section and not in the "Commodities Futures" where there is not one post with regards to the trading of commodities futures...
Have you figured out which previous poster this person is? I am very bad at that. But based on the content, it is surely a previous nick.
ET really needs to vet its members better and disallow multiple aliases.
Would you do all of us a favor and put me on ignore if my content bothers you so much? I otherwise already stopped responding to you in case you have not noticed, I just wanted to venture this little advise to you.
A user with 51 posts who joined less than one week ago, asking others to put them on ignore. That's rich, and indicative of someone who has been around the block on this forum before.
Give up the goods, breadcrum. Who are you?

If my contents bother you, you can put me on "Ignore". I don't mind. But if your contents bother me to the point that I feel you should be stopped, I will just get you banned. That's all.
