I think it's always a service to shake people from of the conventional 'wisdom' they may have been sold, and give them a cold dose of reality.

Sometimes they hate you for it at the time, but many come around in due time and would thank you if they had the chance, once it dawns on them that while it may be hard to accept the truth, because hopes and dreams are intoxicating, broken hopes and dreams are far, far worse than facing reality sooner and adapting accordingly.

In times like these, snake oil is everywhere. It's human nature to want to believe it has magical properties.
