My job is holding me back

You want to be a slave and poor forever ? Than go to work and have a job. But if you want to be free and have a chance to get really rich then you should trading full-time. Only if you have a lot of debts or even more debts than assets then you should not do that until you have a good net worth as starting capital for trading. Also cut down all not required expenses so you can overcome any periods with no income from trading. I bet for sure, that this will be one of your best decisions in your life. Go and be a full-time trader.

something interesting happened to me this last week. background info, I am 55 and have been actively trading for 8 years, I have had jobs for a long time where I work out of my house and can work and trade at same time.

This last week... First off I got COVID, that is the bad news. The good news is that I am covered for 2 weeks of missed work. That allowed me to trade and not have to do my sales job. And guess what? I had the best week of trading all year! I should not be surprised. Trading with no distractions is great.

so I believe that my job is not helping,,, it is actually hurting my trading.

My long term goal has always been to trade for my full time living. Right now my sales job gives me a guaranteed salary and then commissions, so it is hard to walk away. BUT, now I am asking if I would just make it up with trading and be SO MUCH happier. I enjoy trading, I do not enjoy sales (who does).

I have 6 months worth of expenses in the bank, want to have 12 months to pull the plug.

So, as crazy as it sounds, like I said I think my sales job is holding back my trading.

What kind of trading do you do and how have you done for the entire year?

Just make sure you don't quit your job too soon, i.e., where working one more year or even just 6 months would increase your chances to make it that much more. Quitting your job to go full-time also depends on how easily you can get your old job or a new one back. If it's extremely easy (like have been the case with me), the risk is small. If it's very hard it's likely a bad idea.

Could you instead reduce your work hours/position to 50-60%? I think that would be a better option.
great advice... I actually have another side gig that is bringing in enough to cover my monthly expenses, and it is fun. no there is no option on the full time job to go part time

UPDATE: first off, wow I did not expect this big of a response. I am sure that many traders dream of being full time like me.

I failed to mention that I have a side business of selling windsurf/surf/wing gear. That is making enough to cover my monthly expenses and I love it, it is fun.

I had a birthday on Jan 9,56 years old. I just have to do this. Maybe I crash and burn, but maybe I make it.

I'm retired for several years now and spend 90% of my daylight hours trading related and love it to bits, 7 days a week.
Currently 3:50am, and on ET. :)

Happy belated birthday man! Do whatever make you feel happy!

Bro what kind of trading do you guys do? 2 million in cash? lol with a 50k account if you can't make $1-$2k a day on most days (some days more) and also have very few to no losing days in a 6 month period, then you have no real sizable edge in day trading.

Have you made 1-2K a day on 50K since Dec 27th when you posted this ? 21 trading days means you should have made $21-42K in profits as proof of concept. Reality is always the best test to people's theories that tend to be overly optimistic and don't take into account the unpredictability of markets. Did you have an "sizeable edge in day trading" ( your concept not mine ) ? Or are your expectations unreasonable as I suspect ?
