My Goal for 2008: Trading to Trade Well

Update for week ended 10/31/2008.

Caught another large move on USDCAD Monday (got in at around 1.2940 after losing 1.30 and watched it drop like a rock). I've been in amazement of these huge moves, so seeing +/- 200 pips is really nothing compared to a few months ago (at least I've been on the fortunate side so far!). Haven't stuck to my regular schedule at all this month, maybe once the time rolls back an hour I'll be able to do a better job at that in November.

I've been too busy with work to give adequate attention to trading this week (and probably into the next). I caught most of the nice run on EURUSD early in the week, opening at 1.26 and closed at 1.2951 after it failed to sustain a break above 1.30. That was a nice trade and hopefully I can get a couple in next week.

Life has gotten in the way of trading lately and am sure the holidays won't help. Grabbed some nice EURJPY movement on Wed, but started getting greedy so quit before doing something completely stupid. Nice week when I had a moment though.

Update for week ended 11/21/2008.

Finally had a free day on Wednesday and ended up way over-trading. I just couldn't get a position to hit the target no matter what I did. The first 8 trades got stopped out, then I hit a small target, then 2 more stopped out, and then I finally started connecting and grabbing winners (with one more loser sprinkled in). What a relief! :p The day would have gone down in flames had I not kept the losers small and let the winners run.

I really fucked myself fast, hard, and relentlessly. Like past disasters, it started out as a small loss that compounded in front of my eyes - and my lack of discipline under pressure prevented me from letting it get to this point. All the time I would hope for a turn-around in the trend to prove me right. I quoted this because you seem to be getting more careless and reckless with your trading success lately (especially reading 09/12/08 post), and perhaps, you have forgotten the consequences of being too "risky". Just a friendly reminder to remain disciplined and stick to your trading plan.

BTW, you are doing great!
 
There is truth in what you say JB3; and subconsciously some of the reason I've limited trading days over the past months. I have let myself get deeply involved in other things and limit my screen time. When the time is right, I'll gradually shift focus back and return. :)
 
Update for week ended 11/28/2008.

Hardly worth reporting the results of a little scalping on Wednesday but will do so for the record. Didn't want or expect anything from this holiday week and got exactly that (other than a stomach full of turkey)!
