That's a good point.
If you run a short put backtest on a basket of large cap names it's clear that to need to sell DITM puts to match stock returns..

Obviously in a runaway bull with lower IV, buying stock is the way to go.

The fact that OP generates a significant portion of his PL from stock put to him is case in point..

His sample and time frame are far too small, and more importantly, his method (including costs of implantation) are well known as inferior.

If learning happens quick enough, this could be an ok adventure.

However, normally this sort of thing eats up money, time and better opportunities.

The account is way over 5K, and it's not a paper account. I had another good week. The year-to-date return is up another 2% to 54.5% and the Sharpe ratio is now at 2.00.

I am amazed at how many well meaning posters encourage anyone posting winning results.

I agree that the "called away" part got me confused as well but would rather congratulate the dude and praise his performance rather than shoot him down.

Does not help him, and may hurt him.

Bad choices sometimes produce nice looking performances.

I am amazed how many people allow themselves to go out of their way to insult and dismiss others as inferior beings on anonymous online forums, while entertaining normal and respectful behaviour in real life.

Leave the guy alone and only offer him advice if he asks for it. Insinuating that he is a morron does not make him welcomed here.

And I, am interested in what he has to say.

This is a new strategy implemented this year. The puts are cash-secured. The worst that can happen is I get stuck with a stock, which is why the puts are sold on fundamentally strong stocks.

Some constructive questions for a change:

What would happen to your current portfolio (CSPs, underlying equity and covered calls) if a black swan rocks the market and all indices drop 25% within a week?

You have room to lose money with your gains to date, but how much will you lose?
