On an intraday timeframe and mindset the UVXY and other levered etfs are playable products.
In the hands of someone who has no game in those quarters it's like giving razorblades to a baby.
 
UVXY is good for trading because it is very liquid, however UVIX is better for longer-term holding since it is actually a 2X ETN unlike UVXY which is only a 1.75X ETN. So if UVXY goes up 100% UVIX will go up 133%.

Ultimately it would mean sustained 50% rise in the front month VIX futures. Sustained 40+ VIX really only happened in the post Lehman collapse, I believe. From September 2008 to April 2009 the VIX was over 40. It peaked at about 90 in November 2008 due to the TBTF financials short selling ban. I remember that time since I had OTM XLF puts and I owned a lot of SKF (The only -2X XLF ETF at the time made by ProShares).

Seems like a long shot. You are betting on a black swan event to occur like the "breaking the buck" event in October 2008. A safer bet is going long US dollar and short every currency pair associated with the DXY index (Euro, Yen, Pound, Loonie & AussieDollar).
 
Good points, I daytrade it daily, along with SQQQ SOXL. it's a longshot but with huge upside potential, eg I traded TVIX buying a few shares $54 selling $940 and still kick myself for only holding literally three shares, for big payoff.

I'm thinking the right way to continue profiting from bearish market is to both swing and daytrade a few bear inverses like SQQQ TZA SOXS UVXY..... with a steady holding of at least a few hundred UVXY, despite contango, to benefit from any black swan eg Putin.
