this may be one of the 20% of the time where snopes presents an accurate run down of the situation.

But it brings up another point.

Picking an choosing religions is not something the Federal Govt is allowed to do. That is the point of the establishment clause. The states want to make sure the Federal Govt did not establish an National Church the way some of the states had. (you can check out the history in Professor Bernard Siegans book.

This preference seems to run contrary to the establishment clause and equal protection clauses. Who the hell is Obama to tell us we have join a particular church to be considered a proper objector.

Apparently this issue is before the Supreme Court.
