Multicharts User Thread

Quote from Tums:

I am very happy with the latest V3 beta.
They have made many noticeable improvements.

Hey Tums, haven't downloaded it yet. Is the Radarsceen included yet?

Andrew, you mentioned stop and limit orders functionality but I am informed that it applies only to backtesting. Is there a guess as to when we might have that capability in automated live trading?

Also, again a suggestion... what would put me in traders nirvana is a dll with all the functionality to get info from TWS regarding the account, position, etc. and place trades and cancellations that could be called from an indicator, not a strategy, that would trade intrabar from a chart... dynaorder did just that and development was just way more streamlined and psychologically satisfying with that. Hyperorder has that currently for Tradestation, it does not work well with Multicharts... you could just copy the functionality of hyperorder [they copied it verbatim from dynaorder nearly] and lots of our and your problems might dissolve into thin air... you could put all of your efforts into charting and all the functionality of the program besides strategies because they would not be needed anymore...

Hello etherboy,

You are right. The price marker behavior that you are describing is not always exactly convenient. However, such behavior is considered standard and shows a candlestick's status. Since it changes all the time, the price marker changes its colours as well. The price marker can be turned off altogether.

However, I do want to keep the price marker, only keep the color fixed. I know it's probably not standard (conforming to TS), but I (and probably others as well) really like to see the a fixed color (for example, white).

Other trading software like QuoteTracker or Amibroker uses fixed color and it's a lot more pleasing to the eyes.

The constantly changing color is really a big turn off.

Andrew... You did it. MC 3.0 is FAST FAST FAST... Data Loading is So SO zippy even pulling in over 2 years worth of 1 minute data.

Reloads are zippy. No more going to drink coffee and read the paper whilst I wait and wait...

Now If I could just get rid of the Optimization failure errors, I could check this out as well.

SO far good job on fixing the screw-ups of the past...

3.0 Will bring you into the 21st century.

Here are my findings:

1. As discussed above one of the biggest weaknesses is the time it takes to load the charts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In MC 3.0 data loading speed has been considerably improved.

It may have been considerably improved, but it is still incredibly slow, and is a big weakness of multicharts.

mij,

It is no slower (charting wise) than any other program now. Even data pull with IB is greatly improved. It is now useable....

Reloads are near instant. Changing periodicities are quick.

What are the slow downs you speak of.

Of course I have never used Esignal.

May I ask what is your processor speed, how much RAM is installed, what is your internet speed and finally . . . how many days back does your data go in the charts that you are loading?

Found one bug.

When I try to create futures daily chart (IB's YM mini-dow), only regular hours can be choosed, I can't choose 24 hours like other intraday period (like ticks, minutes)

All the data outside regular hours are excluded.
