MT4 data feed to Excel problem

I use MT4 for futures and stock price data, and feed this live to an Excel worksheet via DDE.

I know this is ancient technology but it works.

However, now, for some reason, although this works fine on my laptop, on the desktop PC, excel just hangs when I select update links.

Identical versions of Excel, MT4.

Reall frustrating, tried everything I can think of (making sure DDE is eneabled in MT4..)

Any ideas ?

Under Excel Options > Advanced > General ...is the "Ignore other applications that use DDE" box checked?

I can't find that option (it's a older version of Excel)...
