MSNBC's Chris Hayes has a Twitter meltdown following breakdown of Democrat's $3.5 trillion bill

I am fine with the Democrats not getting anything. In case, the progressives take Senator Joe Manchin's offer of a reconciliation bill for $1.5 trillion, I have put up a proposal for $1.0 trillion to both Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to adopt instead. My proposal if adopted by either Senator will sink the dreams of progressives for good. Will remind Senator Kyrsten Sinema that the Democrat progressives are trying to primary her. Might be extra motivation for her to sink the progressive reconciliation bill permanently.

The dems are not all that bright. Many of them are working their old playbook where they are gearing up to destroy-demonize any other who does not support their plans to turn the country into Mogadishu.

But that is not a routine you want to run on Manchin. I don't think he would ever switch parties but if he did it would turn their dem-controlled world upside down. As I said, I don't think he would switch nor do many others, but he is fully capable of giving them something to worry about if they get too frisky and start playing the usual games of messing with their committee assignments etc to punish them. Nope, that does not work in this scenario. Work for the dems anyway.

Nor does primarying him. Trump took W.Virginia by 36% or so. Probably not up for re-election anytime soon. Can't remember. Just sayin, Hollywood probably should save their money there.

Now... me? I would have taken the $1.5B and then worked on the rest but the Left had to link the two bills.... or else, and now they may not get anything and that suits me just fine.

.

Manchin has pretty much "helped" them to figure out what the bid-ask parameters are in this game now.

They have not accepted it yet but today will be the beginning of it.

The operative word in this budget kabuki dance, for those of us who have seen it before, is "DOWN PAYMENT". Just yesterday the dems said they would commit hari kari and feed their private parts to the dogs before budging. Today, or over the weekend, the operative word will become "down payment." When you see Mother Superior Pelosi begin to reframe their walk-back as "a down payment on our children's future" then you know we have entered full bullshiite territory. It is hard to keep up with the bullshiite because just yesterday and for months we were told that without all the climate change junk in the bill, we and our children's future was only 8 years. (twelve minus the four that have already passed). But a walk-back from 3.5 to 1.5 is another Kabul-level withdrawal- for the progressives anyway. That first bill that has the real infrastructure stuff in it is probably good to go.

Other laughable stuff going on, includes the large number of dems who non-chalantly are beginning to say "we always knew that was just a starting number and that there would need to be compromise." Nope. In the old order that was how the dance worked. But it has taken massive effort to keep it from going even higher given the dem control of everything. 3.5 is less than half of what lots of them want. It's like saying you are going to negotiate immigration numbers with them. What's a number that would be too high for some of them?

When you hear the words "down payment", it's helmets on. Some first class bullshiite incoming.

The GOP wants to separate thesmall roads and bridges bill out to vote on because they know they can then stall and get more time to defeat the other portions of the original 3.5T bill they disagree with. I have seen this commentary both on FOX and MSNBC and it makes sense.

Dems want the whole bill passed because they know partial bill passed, the opposition can then attack the rest and drag it out into next election cycle. GOP knows if they piece out the infrastructure, it is a victory for them and then can fight the progressive elements of the larger bill for an entire year going into the next election cycle.

Pure politics.. neither side gives a shit about the actual elements of the bills.

neither side gives a shit about the actual elements of the bills.

True to some extent.

A less cynical view is that they set out to pass an infrastructure bill and people care that the first bill is in fact and infrastructure and the second one- well- not so much.

So the first bill is a cleaner animal and the second one is a lefty kitchen sink.

So I could take the opposite side of your argument and say that it is about caring about what is in the bills.

Of course it is DC. So everything comes with a heavy scoop of poltical bullshiite too. So that is a given.

Whee. I had not considered that we may get to see some dems cry and scream if that big porkulus bill does not pass or does so at a moderate level.

How can that be a bad thing?

With Manchin's announcement, it puts progressive Democrats prized legislation in jeopardy and appeared to cause the "All In" host to meltdown on Twitter.

"THERE IS NO BRUTAL FISCAL REALITY THE NATION FACES; IT IS ENTIRELY MADE UP!" Hayes tweeted.

He later followed up with another all-caps tweet reading, "ON THE OTHER HAND THE EARTH IS GOING TO WARM PAST THE THRESHOLD ITS EVER REACHED WHILE SUPPORTING HUMAN LIFE SO THATS KIND OF A BRUTAL REALITY WE FACE."
