Well, I could start in on "allusion" with that one, but honestly I sense I might be using the privilege of my education to nitpick.
The appropriate word for you to use is "delusion", not "allusion".
"Enemy camp" is a methophor used in a lot of situations, and the subject has a military context. So when using it to describe an actual military camp, it becomes a literal comparison!
Perhaps a simple slip of the tongue, or maybe it reveals something deeper about Matthews. Can't say for sure.
