I might have misunderstood your post, but it sounded like you were saying that they're doing a bate and switch and the dividend is going to be cut in half after the first dividend.
The per share dividend is cut in half because the stock's splitting 2 for 1. Since the price per share is also halved by the split, the % yield doesn't change.
