I am not familiar with the data you reference but I suspect that Covid cases were commingled with either original/Delta/Omicron all just being counted as Covid.
Vaccines work by producing antibodies of a certain shape. Omicron, with over 50 surfaces mutations, is sufficiently different in shape to make current vaccines much less effective.
The need for a booster for Omicron is being driven by this narrative.

this is not true however. What you are referring to as "shape" is due to protein folding which is dependent on the amino acid sequence in the proteins of interest.. In the case of the pfizer and moderna vaccines, that cause cells to produce antibodies that recognize the spike proteins on the surface of Covid virus, the data shows that these vaccines are quite effective in producing antibodies (proteins) that bind with the omicron variant's spike proteins. Just look at the differences between hospitallation rates for vaccinated versus unvaccinated where omicron is the dominate variant. You can't explain that large a difference if the vaccine is not effective against omicron. What you write is nonsense. It is not supported by the data. I have no doubt you can find plenty of support for your view on the internet. It's nonsense however. Sorry to say there is a lot of nonsense on the internet these days.
The booster produces exactly the same antibody as the fist two shots. The booster produces more of exactly the same antibody. That's all that's needed here. It may be true that the spike protein on the Omicron Variant has a slightly different amino acid sequence than the previously dominant variants, and therefor the mRNA vaccine could be tweaked to give slightly better binding to the Omicron variants. But to imply the current vaccines are not effective against the omicron variant is wrong. The data clearly shows they are quite effective so long as your antibody titer is sufficiently high, Get the booster.

Does it step away from the "parent" strain in unusual ways?

Does it confer immunity to the last major vairant to basically damp it down in a population of experimental subjects, (us), lol?
