Moving offshore

And you don't need to live in these jurisdictions. Setup a offshore Company with limited shareholders, but you will need to consult a good local lawyer in the country you choose. Then you will be tax free until you draw income into Canada....I do this from Sydney Australia quite legally.

Beautiful and at the same time dreary, the whole Pacific NW is for that matter. Great if you want to trade real early and get off early. Me I would like to move to CST or ET time zone from MT to get up later or atleast get more done before the trading day starts.
 
I have been to Vancouver and yes, it is a beautiful city......I like Canada in general. As for trading, I, unfortunately begin my day at aound 23:00.....the NYSE opens at 23:30, although this varies according to daylight savings.

If you are serious about offshore corporations and trading as an offshore entity, consider New Zealand or Ireland. I personally use an NZ corporation.....no tax if the bulk of the businesses activities are outside NZ and you maintain an NZ bank account. Then pay yourself a monthly salary. Add assets to offshore trusts...the tax man cannot commeth after you, as it is legally separated from you as an individual. It couldn't be simpler than that!!

Thanks, I have considered Aussie...expensive real estate and I thought the taxation was high there, but did not know about this temporary resident thing you speak of. I must inquire more. Thanks for the info.

LOL 2006 - thanks for the information. It's funny to me that you say that, because I am originally from Vancouver Canada (hold dual passports). Cost of living is sky high, especially at Whistler. It's unreal how much that place has changed in the 10 years that I used to live there. Went back for a holiday to visit family 2 years ago - wow.

With all these talks about offshore, evryone should be reminded that for short term trading it does not have any benefit. Short term profits are taxed on foreign account as ordinary income made in the US.

So if you are a short term trader, stop dreaming.

sorry but I cannot give you updated information on Koh Samuii but the last time I was there (I think 2001) I didnt like it as much as the first time in 1995. Reliable internet there is definetely a problem, so trading is probably a hard to impossible thing.

Social life and entertainment:

Well, living here is quite comfortable though by time local people get to know you resulting in earning less smiles than a 2-weeks tourist if you know what I mean.
My circle of friends is mostly reduced to expats and a limited number of Thais I have regular contact with. Nevertheless its an amazing tropic place with awesome beaches and nice climate around the whole year. Food, sightseeing, watersports, golf, nightlife, festivals, all a big yes.

Dogs, if your question was serious, are not on the menu plan though I wouldnt recommend to bring one.

If thats going too off topic and you wanna know more or specific details send me a PM and I will try to answer.

By the way I am in Texas now, staying for a week. First time to the US and 3 hours "welcome interview" at the immigration in Houston. I can understand now what you guys mean when looking for a second or alternative base.

That may be true for the folks in USA, but means nothing to anyone outside of the USA.
