All I can say is that derailing a thread started by the web site's owner isn't too smart. As I said, I like marketsurfer in person but the narcissism, the excessive arguing, and the rabbit chasing are beyond getting old.

how did I get him banned? I must have powerful friends.

Uhhh, what happened to your "mission accomplished" post right after the banning? Did you -- or the mods -- take it down?

No, should still be there. I was paraphrasing GW Bush when we conquered Mesopotamia. You would take my word that I had him banned? Thou bestow too much power on little ol' atticus.

Edit: You're right, that post appears to be gone. I didn't delete it nor did I ask for it to be deleted. I do know that Baron deleted 4 pages of content pre-post banning of, "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named".

Quote from Baron:

The idea was never dropped. As soon as I implemented the software with the self-moderation capabilities, people were instantly crying for the "old ET" to come back because of some lost posts and other migration problems. You have to understand that moving to an entirely new model of moderating user's own threads and the implementation of other requested advanced features are not "bolt-on mods". This means that almost all of the old underlying code has to change, and virtually nothing is going to behave in the exact same way as it used to. It's going to be a clusterfuck of changes no matter how you look at it. It's like building a brand new interstate without any inconveniences to existing drivers and roads... it's just never going to happen. So change is coming, but I can tell you right now that it's not going to be pretty.

I haven't read this entire thread but I will say that ET is one of the easiest forums to navigate around and find the information you need....yeah I may bash ET from time to time..but it's still tops in "look and feel"

Any changes you make should be "small tweaks here and there" and "rolled out over time"....even if you have to custom code the underlying software

Ten years ago I would have been all for self-moderation. Now, not so much. Whether this has to do with the fact that I'm ten years older or the clientele has changed, who knows? But I've found that with few exceptions -- very few exceptions -- I've asked those who are troublesome to either read the thread or butt out. Some have actually read the thread and made at least a small effort to participate. The rest have butted out. Those few exceptions were taken care of by Magna. So, no, I really don't want or need self-moderation and vote against it.

At TL I was given my own forum and the ability to moderate it was great. But, ultimately, the success of a thread or forum or site depends on interest, and there is no longer any interest at TL in what I was doing there. So being able to moderate my own forum is a moot point since there's no longer anything to moderate.

I don't know all the moderators, but I can tell you that Magna understands what's required and he takes care of business. I don't know if you just got lucky, but as long as you have a few people like Magna, you can leave the moderation setup just as it is and save yourself the expense and hassle of setting up something new which may carry with it unintended and unwelcome consequences.

it's time to MOVE ON

The trolls aren't interested in moving on. This thread fell off as soon as S••• was banned per their demands. Doesn't seem the trolls have anything constructive to offer.

You quoted me, and you are surprised I answered?

Yeesh, you again? You're like a smear of dog-waste on my shoes I can never quite wipe off. Do you have an alert set for every time I post?
