I seldom go to the movie theater for all the reasons being discussed. The industry will say people stay away because of cost. That's bullshit.
I'd happily pay double, triple the cost if they could control the crowd, and my biggest pet peeve, 20 minutes of f'n commercials prior to the movie.

Near me they have premium theatres. You pay more, and choose your reserved seat. You would be surprised how 7 bucks extra keeps a certain type out. Worth it for sure.

But even then we still only go midweek, first showing and never in the first weeks release.
