The minimum wage is such a bogus issue.
Some politician knows better than the market what a job is worth. Why don't they decide what houses should sell for too? After all, a lot of people can't afford them. Cars too.
Of course, these are the same geniuses who think that rent control is the way to deal with a housing shortage.
The minimum wage is not meant to be lived on. It's for jobs filled by high school students or retirees working parttime. Anyone making the minimum wage with a family to support is going to qualify for all sorts of government programs as well, from food stamps to the earned income credit, sothe entire premise is misleading.

If that were true, I'd support it. But the amount wouldn't change, as more people would become unemployed and take the dollars the higher paid gave up.

Over the long run, raising the min wage is inflationary...the effects will filter up. The guy making a $1 above min wage will still want to make $1 more if the min wage is raised to what he is making now. So, in a few years the min wage worker is back where he started....too much month and not enough money.

Cutting benefits will fix that. Thousands more of the newly "eager" will go to school so they can move up and won't have to earn minimum wage!
You know, I'm not for that. I have no problem helping someone who is truly down and out. But you can't make it a permanent lifestyle choice. It has to be temporary. Able bodied people who get welfare should know it its not going to last forever. There has to be an incentive to get back to work.
And it also implies Democrats want something for nothing ... gimme, gimme!! They want a higher minimum wage because they feel ENTITLED to it (along with the many other handouts many of them receive).
