Thanks for the quick response. I assume that the fact that you didn't feel comfortable answering my question means that it hit close to home, otherwise you probably would have said something like 'No, I have never had any gay fantasies'. I wouldn't worry though, because I think a recent CUNY study showed that quite a few men with self-esteem problems have gay fantasies even though they aren't actually gay.
In this case, your non-answer is pretty much all the answer we need.

just back from chicago... been everywhere loop, north up to winnetka, south down to cellular stadium / hyde park etc, walking i dunno how many miles everywhere (there's this thought that i may "relocate" at some point...)... caught up with blacks & whites, rich & poor, mates of the wife and i, from there and elsewhere... not what i expected... city doesn't feel any more violent than tokyo... sure, there are quite a few beggars around with a lot of "attitude" but no big deal... also felt very "clean"... i went out at nite in low places but nobody tried to push any stuff to me nor seemed to be doing any stuff either... maybe i didn't go deep enough but... no regrets... been there done that...

Do few winters first. One is not enough, it just amuses you, Then it gets tiring and tiring and more so.
I lived in few major cities around the world and Chicago is the most provincial with no other place to come even close. Drivers more dangerous than anywhere else (experience)(spent 5 years /12 months a year on motorcycle in San Diego so I don't think I am a sissy)
There is something about people what I really dislike but cannot define. They remind me a quote from WW2 book where Yanks are called a dangerous specie for their combination of being crude and cunning at the same time.
Chicago is for locals and Polaks who are unable to learn even basic English after years being in the U.S. Interesting you will find all possible nationalities here but Americans are all locals. That should give you a hint.

thanks for the tips... wife studied at UIC, architecture major, she just loves the city despite the winters... i was spooked by how slow it was, felt like provincial pace as well, but that's not necessarily bad... anyway, no intention to move right away, i'm thinking 1-2 year horizon and it's still a big maybe...
A few years ago I had to kick in the front door of some American Blacks and tell them that if their kid kept on insisting on a war with my kid it was going to have to be at their house and it was going to be a bloody fricking mess before it was over. The little gang bastard and his pals were threatening the kid, harassing her at her workplace, threatening her boss and co workers. I got a dent on my car before I got out of there but they got the idea. I still recall the look on the face of that idiot that dented my car when he saw the back up lights come on, I was going to go right up the lawn and right over him but there was a shrub in the way. He sprinted for the house, probably got under his bed. They shut up and went away. In their culture cooperation with police is minimal and criminals run the place, in mine cooperation with the police is also minimal and sometimes I have to run the place 
I see that Hillary, that thing from out of some intellectually bankrupt hole in the midwest, encouraging anti white resent and racism among the black community. Why does she not encourage blacks to learn to navigate the larger culture and succeed? Why does she encourage the lawsuits and resent that make Blacks very, very unnatractive job candidates? She is more interested in preserving the "Black Cultural Heritage" isn't she? She wants them hip hopping, rioting, and shooting each other and hating whitey doesn't she? Otherwise, they start to succeed, they become republicans after awhile and her party desperately needs those votes, no?
I say we send Hillary to Africa and start some "greater cultural awareness" programs in the African American community. There is a huge talent pool there, completely suffocated by politics while we outsource... way to go Hillary.
