Quote from L-Kabong:
I am glad that we all feel that this incident is horrendously ugly, criminal, and completely unacceptable. I believe creed is independent of sexual orientation, and that one's sexual orientation cannot be subject to discrimination by another who feels it conflicts with his moral code. Political expression should be free among all groups, and the most of us in the center or left accept that some segments of the traditional Democratic base - such as gays, blacks, and other minorities - prefer the Republican party. I think that's a good thing as it represents more mobility and cultural exchange within society and less judgement of groups based on non political criteria.
I applaud you if you are sincere, and I truly mean that. I will mention, however, that two very good friends of mine (elderly gentlemen) are gay, and republican. They walk on eggshells constantly, and not because of the right wingers that they know and that's the simple truth of it. They fear the traditional left. Perhaps you can change the minds in the center and left, because many need to have their minds changed.
Perhaps you can convince some African Americans that it's ok for them to be Republican or right of center, too. I would applaud that, as well. It would give truth to what I believe to be a lie...that the left is the tolerant party.
