I don't follow Coulter one way or the other, and not because she's outspoken or female. (The combination of which seems to outrage so many folk here on ET, not so much because they consider her to be an asshole, but because this means she's a Bitch. Typical of the ET misogynists.)
No, I harbor contempt for Coulter not for her political bent (though I disagree w/much of what she says) but rather for the same reason I disdain all of her kind, conservative or liberal - because she's a fanatic. If you only look at things in terms of black and white according to your party line, you're a fake, you're not open to reason. Republican, Democrat, Al-Queda - if it's your way or the highway then you shut down the political process because you leave no room for debate. It's ridiculous. Pure partisan politics is bullshit. No party has all the answers because the questions are far too complex.
Coulter is a brilliant publicist but shows her true stripes in the exploitive title of her book: "Godless: The Church of Liberalism". Liberals aren't just wrong, they are Evil, "Godless". She reaches right down into the deepest fears of the Christian conservatives and warns them that the liberals are trying to take away the very religious foundation that built this country and on which they base their lives. Yes, it's offensive, but it's so ridiculously over-the-top that one can only laugh at its cheapness. It's a carnival side-show disguising itself as political/moral outrage, demonizing the opposing parties in the most obvious way.
Bringing it out on 6/6/06 was supposed to be a joke, but then again, she isn't really joking. Which is exactly what makes her and her kind so disgusting and offensive.
